I'm a 21 year old Melbournian, I work in a boutique brewery that's open to the public with the idea of choosing one of our numerous beers and brewing it yourself, Right down to the bottling. After a number of months of slowly learning the different characteristics of beers and their distinctive differences, I've decided to start at number 1 and work my way through the 'local tap-house's 100 hottest craft beers of 2010' with the hope that by the end of it I'll be able to tell the difference between an Indian pale ale and a Pilsner with 25grams of extra Saaz hops.

NUMBER 4
FERAL HOP HOG AMERICAN IPA

DUM DUM DUMMMMM!!!!
I finally got my hands on this little brew, and I have to say this is one of the beers I've been the most excited to try, with rave reviews from everybody I've spoken to, and at the beer and brewers magazine birthday party people were raving about it, yet I couldn't find it anywhere. A place in Hawthorn on Burwood Road 'Slowbeer' had it and stocked what can only be described as a tantalizing selection of beers. But enough about that.

This little brew seems to be quite heady on pour from the bottle but the head is a thick white  and almost creamy looking one. The colour is a magnificent golden brown/orange and glistens in the light.  It's Quite cloudy but seems clean with no sediment floating around in it, which isn't a bad thing sometimes.

The aroma is a very hoppy one, I'm venturing out and saying cascade hops is the main one....but i could be mistaken. Not much else gets around that hop smell!

The taste was not what i was expecting at all from an IPA, but then again this is the American take on it. Very Bitter, And very hoppy, at first i didn't really know if i liked it at first but as i got further and further into this little treasure i began to like it even more and more. the further in i got the more tastes i began to discover as the initial shock of the bitter hoppiness wore away, the malts began to show themselves! the feral stays on your palette subtly and leaves a malty, caramel type taste in the back of your mouth which is incredible....

This is a beer i could see myself sitting there with a 6-pack and with each beer finding something new and enjoyable about his treasure of a brew, do yourself a favour and try it! support craft beers like this!!
